06.23.10: Hate Consumes.

Being raised where I was and how I was taught me a lot of things and made me a very particular kind of person.

I came to college. All of that was challenged.

I am now a new, and I hope, better person because of that.

However, one of the things that has changed for the worse has been the opening of my eyes to all of the hatred and bigotry in the world.

I try to always be open to learning about new ideas and thoughts, constantly challenging my views on the world. Becuase of this, I have developed my own view of this crazy little sphere we live on. I am proud of what I have learned and created.

Again, thought, there are the people full of unwavering stance who refuse to even consider new possibilities and understandings.

This saddens me.

Why can't things change? Why can't people change? Why can't the world change?

Oh wait. It does. Whether we like it or not. Time changes things. Society moves and progresses. We must accept this and press onward.

This does not mean completely abandoning the past. History has much to teach us. Tradition is a great bond between peoples.

However, we must be willing to adapt and grow, especially when it comes to how we understand the world around us.

In science, there is a concept of fluidity. Things that flow are almost constantly moving, changing, and yet, staying the same.

We live a life of fluidity, bending and curving and moving. When we can finally grow to understand and accept that, maybe we can be a little more tolerant of all the motion.

  2. I was talking to a close friend about how when a bunch of my friends have "come out" to their friends and family here in Lubbock, those people whom they love and cherish have not been the most supportive. I understand that yes, a lot of people here have very conservative Christian beliefs. However, that doesn't give you a right to be hateful, mean, spiteful, rude, etc. That person is your FRIEND, your FAMILY, and you LOVE them. Even if you don't agree with how they are living their life, at least give them your LOVE.

And THAT'S what got me off on the rant.
