She lay in his arms not breathing, holding in the moment as if it would last forever.
The time came when she finally exhaled, sighing with contentment. As she began to feel the rhythm of his breathing on her back, the two motions became one, a shared continuation of life.
He briefly let out a little snore, and she tried not to laugh. He did that quite often, not enough to bother her, but enough to provide continual amusement.
She leaned over her shoulder to look at the face that just minutes ago was pressed to hers.
Still asleep.
Rolling onto her other side to face him, he stirred.
"Well, hello."
"Hello."
Their eyes briefly met and smiled at each other.
She had never felt this feeling before. Almost like happiness, but edging on contentment. What lies between?
This, this moment.
